high resolution.
Yes, you can use your disk for reprints
at any photo processing center that does digital printing.
Most places that develop and produce photos are completely
capable of this. You could also use your computer and
printer to produce prints yourself. Also, you may use
your disk to upload your photos to a photo sharing service
such as Ofoto or Shutterfly.
Having your photos on CD or DVD makes reprints inexpensive
and hassle free.
4. Can I email my digitized pictures to friends and family?
>to top of page
Yes, we do include software with all
of our Photo Archive disks. You may use this software
to prepare your photos for emailing. Please note: Our
photo archiving service is of high quality, your new digital
photos will be of high resolution. High resolution images
are not always the best choice for email because of the
large file size. The software that is included free of
charge with our services is capable of preparing your
high resolution files for email. Please refer to the software's
help file for best results.
One copy of all your photos, slides,
or negatives, scanned and converted to high quality digital
images saved

directly on it, and a case with your title printed on
the cover and spine. All disks include software for viewing,
emailing, printing, and creating slide shows of your photos.

7. Why not scan and archive my photos at home? >to
top of page
If you happened to have the time and
knowledge to you could. Scanning, saving, and archiving
more than a few pictures can be time consuming and frustrating.
We have spent a considerable amount of time and money
perfecting the process for you. Save yourself the time
and frustration by having the professionals do the work
for you.
8. What format will my photos be converted to? >to
top of page
Your photos can be saved in any format
you desire. Normally we save photos on our disks in the
JPEG format for compatibility issues and file size benefits.
We can save your files to a lossles format such as TIFF
if desired. Additional charges apply for other formats.
If you have special needs or just want a different format,
no problem. Just be sure to specify on your order form
what format you desire. We can also make your disk compatible
with the HFS file system used with Macintosh computers.
If you have further questions about file formats or compatibility
issues with Macintosh computers please feel free to call
1-800-383-2903 or email support@digitalmemoriesonline.net
.
9. What resolution will my prints be scanned at? >to
top of page
Professional photo printing requires
that your image be 300dpi, or dots per inch. The actual
dpi used to scan your prints depends on the size of the
print. The minimum we would scan at would be 300dpi. We
can go as high as 4,000dpi. Typically we scan images smaller
than 4x6 at 600dpi, and larger prints are scanned at 300dpi.
A 4x6 scanned at 600dpi results in a final image size
of 2400x3600 pixels. Containing enough detail to accurately
recreate an 8x12 of the image. Scanning prints at a dpi
greater than 600 will not likely enhance the image, it
may actually ad artifacts to the scan. When scanning negatives
or slides higher resolutions are a must because the area
being scanned is smaller. Please see the next question
for details on slides and negatives.
10. What resolution will my slides or negatives be scanned
at? >to top of
page
We can scan your slides, negatives,
or APS film at extremely high resolution. Our scanners
are capable of scanning at up to 4,000dpi. You may select
the resolution you desire. For most circumstances 2,000dpi
is sufficient. However if you have special needs we will
be happy to accommodate you. Visit the photo
archiving pages to learn more about our scanning services.
Photo Slide Show, Photos to Video, and Photo Montage
Answers:
1. What is a photo slide show, or video photo montage?
>to top of page
Simply put it's video of your photos.
Or a movie that contains your photos transitioning to
music. A way to watch your photos play on your television.
Your photos will show for around 10 seconds each and then
transition through your sequence of photos with music
playing in the background. Slide shows make great gifts
and are fun to share at family gatherings etc.
Software for viewing, emailing, and
printing the photos used in your slideshow, a copy of
all photos used saved to JPEG format for use with your
computer. Last but not least your slide show on DVD, complete
with music and transitions.
Over 90% of DVD players on the market
support the DVD-R format. Your player must support this
format. If you receive your DVD and it does not work with

to each point? >to
top of page
Yes, all of our DVD's come complete
with chapter selections at set intervals every 5, 10,
15, or 20 minutes. You can also specify points at specific
times if you desire at no additional charge. Your DVD
will have a menu with thumbnails for each chapter on the
"Scene Selection" menu. Please visit the video
transfers page for more information.
3. How much video will Digital Memories DVD's hold? >to
top of page
The DVD format can hold varying amounts
of video depending on the amount of compression used.
Digital Memories uses professional quality variable bit
rate encoding on all of our disks. This ensures the best
compression to quality ratio that's practical. We do not
recommend putting over 2 hours of video onto a single
DVD. All of the audio on our disks is in the PCM or AC3
format. This ensures compatibility with U.S. DVD players
which are not required to support the MPEG-2 audio standard.
We use the same formats as "Hollywood" although
in the movies a compressionist would be hired to individually
set custom compression settings for individual scenes
or clips. A process that can take weeks. Rest assured,
you will be getting the best quality DVD anyone offering
transfer services can offer or your money back.
Our disks, compression, authoring,
and capturing hardware and software is state of the art.
Each project gets individual attention. You will receive
a quality product or your money back.
